St. John’s Port Authority announces new Community Investment Programme; Partnership with United Way NLThe St. John’s Port Authority (SJPA) is pleased to announce a new initiative with regard to its charitable giving: a 5-year commitment to donate 0.5% of its Operating Income each year; estimated at $40,000 per year and $200,000 over the 5 year programme.

“We are proud to contribute to programs that make a positive impact on our local community” said Sean Hanrahan, President & CEO of the SJPA. “For at least the next 5 years, community investment will be a significant part of ‘the bottom line’ for the SJPA.”In order to administer the new programme, the SJPA has formed a partnership with the United Way NL which will distribute the SJPA’s annual charitable giving through the United Way’s Community Fund.

Hanrahan stated that the “United Way has the expertise to identify both the needs and the assets of our community. It places great care and diligence in its funding application and reporting processes, which gives us the confidence that the United Way will invest our donations in the organizations that operate with accountability and best practices.

About the United Way:United Way of Newfoundland & Labrador’s Community Fund supports a broad range of programs and services, and endeavors to strike a balance between supporting services that address immediate and future needs, as well as working to address root causes of various social issues in our communities. It’s key funding areas are “All That Kids Can Be”; “Healthy People, Strong Communities” and “From Poverty to Possibility”.The United Way NL is 100% local. It combines people and financial resources to support positive change for individuals, organizations, neighbourhoods and communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
