The goal is that all children and youth in the City of St. John's are able to participate in recreation and leisure activities which help boost their self-esteem, promote healthy active living and support personal growth through increased knowledge and skill development.

Funding from United Way went towards:

  • Registration Fees - All registration fees for recreation programs are paid for through the R.E.A.L. Program. The program partners with 70 recreation organizations in the St. John's area who believe all children deserve access to sport and recreation.
  • Transportation - In order to provide and ensure that all participants can get to their program without any barriers, transportation is provided to those individuals that are unable to access their own. This is done through a partnership with Newfoundland Cabs and St. John's MetroBus.
  • Equipment - The cost to purchase equipment can be very expensive and in some cases cost more than the actual program. The R.E.A.L. Program operates an equipment room, where equipment is either new or used. It is signed out to the participants at the beginning of their activity and returned at the end.
